Gulden Draak

Categories: ,

The authentic ruby red triple.

An equally impressive beer goes with such an imposing symbol that has lasted for more than 6 centuries. As the dragon adorns the top of the city, Gulden Draak has been among the world’s top beers for years. It is a dark triple, which makes it an exceptional beer in itself, but the complex taste with notes of caramel, roasted malt and coffee makes it unique.
In short, the beer is worthy of its name.

For the secondary fermentation use is made of a wine yeast that determines the unparalleled taste and ensures the long-lasting evolution of taste (= live beer). The older the beer gets, the more aroma it gets and the fuller the taste and color.

So it is definitely worth keeping a few large bottles and aging them for many years.

Aroma: sweet, slightly roasted malt and coffee
Taste: very full mouthfeel with notes of chocolate, caramel
Finish: bittersweet and long

Gulden Draak is easy to drink as an aperitif, dessert or simply if you take a moment to enjoy. This “barley wine” harmonises excellently with and in stews and with a Ghent stew in particular. It also gives added value to sauces with red meat such as a bordelaise and is also ideal as a dessert beer, especially with dark chocolate.

The power of the Golden Dragon comes into its own in its unique glass, a mysterious dragon egg that rests on the strength of a rock. A dragon is lasered on the bottom of each glass, which ensures that the fine head of the beer is kept for a long time.
